Switched over to rc universe

I've been posting updates on rc universe.  Here's the link to the site.  I think I may stick with this site because there are so many rc guys on this site and they make some good comments.

Fowler hinges

Here are the fowler hinges.  I had them laser cut out of plywood.  They worked really well on the previous plane so hopefully they should work again.  Also, I've started working on the wing joiner box which holds the wings together inside the fuselage.

The kit is here!

Here is what the kit looks like right out of the box.  Lots of foam, fiberglass, and vacumed formed parts.  The foam blocks have the wings cut out already by a hot wire.

Broken tail piece

Well, I received a phone call from the company that makes the American Eagle B-24 kit.  Bob told me that as he was taking out the tail piece of the plane it broke and had to start over.  He has made a new one and will be shipping it soon.  He confirmed with me what has been shipped and what parts I'm missing.  He was very kind and was happy to throw in an extra turret so I can mount it on the nose (the standard setup has a glass nose cone).

I've been trying to work on other parts while I'm waiting.  I've found out that my previous laser cutter guy has stopped taking orders.  I'm now having to re-draw my fowler flap hinges and send them off to another company to be laser cut out of 1/8" plywood.  I had already done this in my previous plane and now I have to do it all over again.  Very frustrating.

Half of the plane has arrived.

Well, the front half of the fuselage and turret have arrived (box 2 of 3).  I'm missing moxes 1 and 3.  I'm hoping they'll arrive today.  I'll post some pictures of the fiberglass parts as soon as I can get them all together.  I've started looking on the internet for some wood.  I need some 1/4" and 1/8" plywood to get started on it.  However, I've ran into a problem now.  The wood I need will cost around $170.  My pay check is already allocated to other *important* things so I have to find another means to come up with the money.  I believe I have!  Since this semester is going to be a bit easier than past semesters and I'll be taking the summer off, I've started teaching viola lessons again (I haven't told my wife yet).  I'll probably start next month with two students.  Hopefully this will fund the airplane and I can keep it going.  I just hope I don't kill myself taking on too many projects.

*important* means family, house, bills, etc.  Somehow those things are more important than a B-24!  I don't get it.  :)

The purpose of this blog.

The purpose of this blog is to share the building process of this B-24.  I plan on making this B-24 with much more details than the previous one.  I hope I can keep it interesting and still show all the fun that go into building this plane.
